Thoughts on rookies at OSU

This is my first insightful post. It was first posted as a comment to Sean's blog. Henceforth, I will only be posting stuff of this sort here and will be less verbose with my comments to Sean's blog.

OK, so here's my thoughts. First a few lists, then some analysis. BTW, I posted this before reading your post.

People who impressed:
McCabe
BTate
Blake
Jake
Nick
Brad
Zach

People who maintained the status quo:
Pat
Patrick

People who didn't do so hot:
Chris
Neup
Skylar
Mike P.

Analysis:
McCabe - He often looks lost as a cutter. He needs to be more aggressive...he's big, and he needs to use that to make some big plays. His defensive and offensive bids towards the end of the tournament is what impressed me. He's gonna be good.

BTate - Great stuff mostly. Had some unacceptable drops. Needs to get a better attitude.

Blake - Started to be a pretty darned effective cutter. Good field sense. Needs to improve defense, and needs to cut down on unacceptable drops.

Jake - Pretty darned good all around...I think of the rookies, he was the best this weekend (despite all the BTate hype). When he was in the game, he made stuff happen, and had few errors and multiple good D's. Caught with two hands almost every time. Plus, it's pretty sweet that he gave Mamabird the cold shoulder to come to Pitt...

Nick - Great break throws. I want him to be better on defense, and to look more confident with the disc.

Brad - Also had a great weekend. Needs to improve throwing form and cut down on some drops, but other than that, he's right on track to being a great player.

Zach - Sucked on day 1, but seems to understand field sense pretty well. Had a phenominal day 2. He's going to be good...I know it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pat - Is behind the curve on learning how to use his flick in a game. Had some nice plays, but his inability to throw a flick upfield in games stopped him from being put on the impressed list.

Patrick - Is slowly picking up the game. I think he's gonna get it, but he didn't quite make it this weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chris - Not very good. Needs to learn to throw better. Needs to get more D's. Needs to not drop passes.

Neup - Got abused by a lot of people. He's decent on offense - doesn't really drop the disc or throw it away - but he needs to be a better defender.

Skylar - Too many goddamn drops. Grr.

Mike P. - Can anyone say Jon Harden II? OK, so he's better than Jon, but he was unable to use his phenominal speed to play good D, and he drops a lot. Has a long way to go before he's A quality.
