Yet another injury status report and a cute little anecdote

OK, so I promised I wouldn't talk about this anymore, but I guess it's relevant once again. Went to physical therapy today...actually got a little funny story out of it, so I'll begin with that.

Hop on the 50A shuttle to get down to the Center for Sports Medicine. If you've never ridden on the 50A, I highly recommend it. Hop on, there's rap music playing and I'm surrounded by 10 guys who are enormous. Luckly, most of them were only there until Sutherland, so I didn't have to take the whole ride to the South Side feeling completely intimidated. Regardless, I knew that the shuttle was supposed to return at 2:30 to head back to campus, and that should I miss it, the next one wouldn't come til around 5:30. Problem was that my appointment was at 2:00, so I was banking on my appointment being over in time to catch it home. My backup was to ride the Fraggle train home. My appointment ended at 2:28, I go out to the desk to schedule another one, and the I go outside to wait for the shuttle. 2:30 comes and goes, and I start thinking that the shuttle already passed me by. Wanting to make certain of this before calling Fraggle, I walk down to Steelers/Panthers training complex to see if the shuttle is waiting there. As I'm half way between the Center for Sports Medicine and the training complex, I see...what else...but the 50A pulling out of the training complex parking lot. So I start running as fast as my little injured legs can take me back to the Center for Sports Medicine, quickly realize that I'm not gonna get there, so I run out into the street and flag the shuttle down. The bus driver steps on the gas, but then I increase the aggressiveness of my flagging, and he stops. Looks at me and says "you were runnin the wrong way!" The whole bus breaks down in laughter...yes, the same people I was so intimidated by on the drive down. I curl up in a ball on the front seat and say nothing for the rest of the ride.

Anyways, here's how my appointment went. Talked to a guy named Sean, he did some strength tests and such, and I learned the following information:
1) The pain right below the ball of my ass on my left side is caused by tendonitis in the tendon that connects the hamstring to the bone. This is likely due to compensation for my other injury, and should subside with proper rehabilitation
2) I don't have a hernia.
3) I should see a doctor. I was referred to Dr. Stone, who is a hip specialist at UPMC and has dealt with these injuries on multiple occasions in the past.
4) It's unlikely, unless there is evidence of tears or other reparable damage to the muscle or tendon tissue, that surgery will be necessary or effective. I will likely be given an MRI/CT to determine if any reparable damage exists.
5) It is likely that I will need to take some time off - the therapist I saw today estimated 6-8 weeks - in order to allow the damage to heal.
6) There is the possibility that, despite the uncomfortability factor, Dr. Stone will recommend different treatments such as Cortisone injections, some sort of weird ass laser therapy, ultrasound, or other things to help stimulate growth and repair the damage.

I have a call in to Dr. Stone about getting an appointment, and should have it some time next week. I suspect I will know a lot more about where I stand by then, but it looks like at best I'm not playing again before early February.

I hope that I can talk about Ultimate some time soon, instead of this crap.

Good to hear that some measures are being taken to figure out what's wrong and fix it. I hear Weasel is an MRI scheduling messiah...

Glad to hear that you are getting a scan of some sort.

I had a good lift today:
45press (personal best), step ups, RDL, hip ADDuction/ABDuction.

where are the ramblings?

I was originally going to ramble a little more...but the rambling just turned into the anecdote.

Also...question for everyone:
Do you prefer the font size on this post, or on my previous posts?

I like the bigger size better. Maybe something in between?

Also about word verification: if about 10 people in the entire world know about this blog, do you really expect that many bot comments?

I consider it a preventative measure for when my blog explodes onto the national scene.
